Public Talks: 'Makes Sense?'

BUSINESS & MEANING
John Vervaeke

What if businesses have forgotten how to make sense?

Explore meaning as a way of knowing – participatory, embodied, and relational – and what becomes possible when business rediscovers it.

“Ignorance is a lack of knowledge. Foolishness is a lack of wisdom”

— John Vervaeke

Public Talks: 'Makes Sense?'

A series of live conversations that reexamine the ideas shaping business and leadership today. Each conversation begins with one essential question.

People with different experiences and ways of knowing come together in a practice of collective sense-making to expand perception and reveal possibilities that remain beyond any single perspective.

About this talk

As information becomes increasingly abundant, wisdom becomes one of leadership's greatest responsibilities. John Vervaeke invites us to explore how we make sense of the world, why meaning matters in organisational life, and how cultivating wisdom can transform the way we lead, decide, and participate in an increasingly complex world.

Questions we want to reflect on:

  • What does it mean to make sense in an age of complexity?

  • What is the difference between intelligence, knowledge, and wisdom?

  • How might organisations cultivate wiser ways of seeing and acting?

Speaker
Dr John Vervaeke is a cognitive scientist, philosopher, and professor at the University of Toronto, internationally recognised for his work on wisdom, consciousness, and meaning-making.

Host
Ryan James Kemp is the Learning Ecosystem Lead at ESSENSE Business School, systems futurist, educator, leadership advisor, and relational architect. Working at the intersection of complexity, living systems, multiple ways of knowing, and the future of business.
