While global climate finance mechanisms traditionally focus on large-scale governmental and multilateral funds, private social investment and philanthropy hold an agile, risk-tolerant, and catalytic capital essential for systemic transformation. A persistent barrier, however, remains the historical separation between traditional social agendas—such as education, health, culture, and equity—and dedicated environmental action.
This 50-minute high-level roundtable will explore how non-climate-specific philanthropic capital can be unlocked through a transversal lens, drawing directly on concrete examples and pioneering practices from Brazilian philanthropy. As Brazilian foundations and institutes lead the way by directing 6% of their social investments to climate action (triple the global average) the discussion will highlight how embedding climate resilience into existing social portfolios can catalyze early-stage innovation, de-risk territorial investments, and mobilize broader capital.
Participants will address pathways for philanthropic foundations to integrate climate action into core social missions without abandoning their original purpose. By bridging sectors and sharing practical frameworks from the Brazilian context, this roundtable aims to foster multi-stakeholder synergies to crowd-in climate funding and encourage international entities to join collective action movements, such as the Philanthropy for Climate initiative.
