About Event

What's the plan?

For my birthday, all I want is for Brum to feel more neighbourly, so I’m hosting a free informal picnic! Please bring your own blankets/chairs, games, smiles and snacks and come meet your fellow Brummies!

So many people are yearning to just connect, make a friend and love their city the way I love Brum. It’s why idealist’s mentality is far reaching to countries world wide. Just a bunch of people around the world that want to stop staring at our phones, stop listening to hate and division and come together and enjoy what our planet has given us, our people have built, and our council have preserved.

Please keep an eye out for weather updates here in the message blasts. Feel free to pop over at any point during those two hours and stay for as long as you’d like!

Do I have to sign up?

Yes please; it will be imperative to get an accurate estimate to know what to expect for space and cake.

Also to note, this an informal picnic in a public park. Attendance is entirely voluntary, and each person is responsible for their own actions, choices, belongings, and wellbeing.

Please be respectful of other park users, and local park rules.

What happens if it rains?

We will meet under the overhang in front of the Birmingham Central Library only if it rains. Confirmation of location, based on weather, will be made the day before. If it is sunny, we will meet in St. Paul's Square.

Will there be food?

Store-bought birthday cake may be available to share. Ingredient and allergen info will be provided, but people are responsible for checking this info and deciding whether any food or drink is suitable for them to consume. Please do bring something to drink and snack on as well as something to sit on.

How will I know where to find you?

We will have a large sign the says Idealist Brum on it with our bull, you won't miss us and I will also post the more specific exact location in a message blast.

What is idealist?

The world is hurting, people are lonely, and it’s becoming harder to make friends. We want to build community, connect with strangers and make life a little brighter through kindness and friendship. Once a month, we do something to make our little corner of the world better.

Who is running this?

**This is a non-political, non-religious, unfunded global movement that focuses on the human side of humanity: connection through kindness.**

This just happens to be my birthday month :)

How many people are involved?

This is a global movement with over 5,000 people across 83 countries. This is the Birmingham and West Midlands initiative to bring people together.

I can't attend that day— can I still connect?

We will be meeting virtually on 7/7 with others across the UK via Google Meet from 6:00pm-7:00pm. Please sign up here:

Where can I get more info about idealist Days?

https://www.idealist.org/en/days/get-involved

Why is the "i" in idealist sometimes lowercase and sometimes uppercase?

The official branded name is with a lowercase i. However, to people that aren't familiar with idealist, it could look like a typo. :)
