Procurement - The Hidden Lever for Climate Action - With Oxford Net Zero and Futerra Solutions Union
As organisations seek to deliver on their climate and net zero commitments, procurement is emerging as a powerful lever for aligning spending and supplier engagement with sustainability goals, including across professional service providers.
This interactive session during London Climate Action Week will bring together procurement, sustainability, and industry leaders to explore how client demand and purchasing decisions can help accelerate progress on “serviced emissions”, or “emissions of influence”. These are greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions enabled by the advice or services of a professional service provider. While sustainability considerations are increasingly embedded into the sourcing of physical goods, they have yet to be consistently applied across professional service providers.
You’ll hear from practitioners across procurement, sustainability, and professional services on:
How procurement can act as a lever for climate-aligned decision-making
Emerging approaches and practical examples from organisations already engaging suppliers on serviced emissions
Insights from ongoing Oxford Net Zero research and cross-sector collaboration
What procurement actions could look like within your organisation
Opportunities to participate in future working groups and collaborative initiatives
Speakers to be announced soon.
This session will operate under the Chatham House Rule to encourage open and constructive discussion. Alongside the facilitated discussion, there will be opportunities to connect with peers across procurement, sustainability, and professional services who are navigating similar challenges and exploring collaborative approaches to climate-aligned procurement.
Who should attend?
Chief Procurement Officers (CPOs) and procurement leaders
Sustainability, ESG, and net zero professionals working closely with procurement functions
Professional service firms and their clients
Industry coalitions, nonprofits, and organisations interested in sustainable procurement and serviced emissions
