Interface: Artist Talk & Closing Reception
Interface | April 9–11, 2026 | Newlab Detroit
Michigan Central Art and Newlab Detroit present Interface, a public exhibition of new work by 2025 Art & Technology Fellows Nicolás Kisic Aguirre, Ananda Ray, and Salam Rida, presented as part of the Creative Residency program.
Part of Michigan Central Art’s broader Creative Residency, the Art & Technology Fellowship supports artists and creative practitioners working across art, technology, and civic life through research, experimentation, and public engagement. Interface marks the culmination of the residency and highlights projects developed within the Michigan Central and Newlab innovation ecosystem.
The exhibition features three distinct projects: Nicolás Kisic Aguirre’s Disobedient Robots explores robotics and technological disobedience; Ananda Ray’s Held in Sight uses AI, sound, and immersive media to activate memory and reflection; and Salam Rida’s Portal takes the form of a mobile civic studio centered on oral history, mapping, and community storytelling.
Public Program and Reception

On Saturday, artist presentations and a panel conversation with all three fellows, moderated by Rafael Villares, Assistant Professor and Area Head in Sculpture in the Department of Art, Art History, and Design at Michigan State University, take place from 2:30–4:00 PM, followed by a reception from 4:00–6:00 PM.
