Beyond the Housing Crisis: An Afternoon of Solutions
A special film screening, conversation and reception exploring housing solutions already working — and what it will take to scale them.
About the event
What if we spent less time talking about what's broken in housing — and more time talking about what's possible?
Ahead of National Housing Day, Tapestry Community Capital and the Centre for Housing Innovation invite you to an afternoon focused on solutions.
We'll screen Thinking Beyond the Market: A Film About Genuinely Affordable Housing, a documentary by University of Waterloo professor Brian Doucet that travels across Canada exploring approaches to creating genuinely affordable housing.
Following the film, we'll bring together housing leaders for a forward-looking conversation around a central question:
We know many of the solutions. What will it take to scale them?
We'll close the afternoon with a networking reception, bringing together people working across housing, community development, government, finance, philanthropy and investment.
Whether you're building housing, financing it, shaping policy, investing in communities or simply interested in what's possible, we hope you'll join us.
About the film
Thinking Beyond the Market: A Film About Genuinely Affordable Housing is a documentary by Brian Doucet, Professor at the University of Waterloo's School of Planning.
Travelling across Canada, the film explores approaches to creating and preserving genuinely affordable housing and asks us to think differently about how housing can be built, financed and sustained.
At a time when conversations about housing can feel dominated by the scale of the challenge, the film turns our attention toward ideas and approaches already being put into practice.
Who should attend?
This event is for people interested in building a more affordable and inclusive housing future — including housing providers, community organizations, policymakers, municipalities, developers, funders, financial institutions, investors, researchers, advocates and engaged members of the public.
