About SPMA
The Singapore Production Management Association (SPMA) is a non-profit civil society organization founded on 24 December 1965, and it has grown in tandem with Singapore over the decades.
In the 1960s, there was a significant lack of management courses taught in Mandarin in Singapore. To address this gap, Dr. Shi Zheng Kai, a PhD-qualified senior management expert familiar with Taiwan's management approaches, introduced management courses conducted in Mandarin. Through his advocacy and the collective efforts of both teachers and students, a Mandarin-based management curriculum was established. This initiative attracted entrepreneurs and business people who shared a Chinese-education background, providing a platform for exchanging knowledge, offering mutual support, and enhancing business development. This spirit of collaboration and professional advancement formed the founding purpose of the association.
In the 1970s, Mr. Ng Bing-Wai, an education officer from Singapore's Ministry of Labour, invited members of the association to undergo training at Taiwan's Ministry of Labour (TWL). Subsequently, members such as Mr. Huang Chun-Fang and others became training officers for the Ministry of Labour's management courses. This marked the beginning of a deep and lasting partnership between SPMA and the Ministry of Labour.
The association's development can be broadly divided into three stages. During the first stage, from 1965 to 1975, SPMA became a popular gathering point for entrepreneurs and business people with similar Chinese-education backgrounds. The association organized numerous activities, including visits to local enterprises and overseas study trips—such as to Taiwan's Datong Electric Appliance Factory. These exchanges broadened members' perspectives, exposed them to advanced management practices, strengthened professional networks, and significantly contributed to the growth of their respective businesses.

For nearly 60 years, the SPMA has been at the forefront of supporting business owners in Singapore.
Over the decades, SPMA have grown into a thriving community representing diverse industries across Singapore. They have evolved into a reputable non-profit organization, fostering growth through initiatives such as private grants, subsidies, and business matching.
Today, SPMA continue to uphold their founding principles while adapting to the ever-changing business landscape, ensuring our members have the resources they need to succeed.
