Single-session secretome therapy for androgenetic alopecia: rationale, evidence, and clinical experience by Dr. Victor Hernandez Machado
Dr. Victor Hernández Machado is a specialist in plastic, reconstructive and aesthetic surgery, trained at the Single-session secretome therapy for androgenetic alopecia: rationale, evidence, and clinical experience
Join Dr. Víctor Hernández Machado, Medical Director of Cànons Clinics in Barcelona, for a clinical webinar on autologous secretome therapy and the case for compressing the standard PRP protocol for androgenetic alopecia into a single session.
Standard PRP for AGA is dose-dependent. The Level 1 evidence — Kieling 2024 systematic review (14 RCTs, 431 patients) and the Gupta 2022 network meta-analysis — places efficacy at five to seven sessions and roughly 100 to 280 scalp injections in the first year. Single-session standard PRP has been tested and failed to separate from saline placebo (Puig 2016). Dr. Hernández Machado will present the biological and clinical rationale for a single-session protocol built on exosmart™ — an autologous, point-of-care platform that concentrates the complete secretome through tangential plasma ultrafiltration, delivering a dual-phase release of soluble cargo and an activated platelet depot without exogenous calcium chloride or thrombin.
Attendees will gain insights into:
The biology of the platelet-derived secretome and its role in dermal papilla cell proliferation in androgenetic alopecia
How exosmart™ differs mechanistically from standard PRP — mechanical platelet activation across a 15 kDa hollow-fibre membrane, dual-phase release at the injection site, and MISEV2023-aligned characterization (CD9⁺ up to 93.2%, CD63⁺ up to 90.1%, GM130/Calnexin negative)
The dose-response argument for PRP in AGA and the rationale for collapsing five to seven sessions into one
Safety architecture: the autologous platform set against the cautionary backdrop of recent allogeneic exosome adverse events (Nahm 2024) and the ESSKA 2025 comparative safety dataset (n = 76,061; PRP at the lowest adverse-event rate of any injectable biologic)
A prospective Cànons Clinics ten-patient series with conventional and trichoscopic follow-up at day 0, 30 and 90 — outcomes, technique, and clinical workflow
Emerging hair indications beyond AGA, including alopecia areata, post-transplant adjuvant use, and post-chemotherapy recovery, plus a brief on the ongoing Hernández Machado and Huertgen studies
This webinar is ideal for dermatologists, aesthetic physicians, hair restoration surgeons, plastic surgeons, trichologists, and regenerative medicine practitioners evaluating autologous biologic platforms for their practice.
