New Zealand’s Active Investor Plus residency visa program:
The program was set up by the NZ Government to support the real economy by investing into private companies as opposed to just investing into listed equities and bonds which don’t really move the needle economically. New settings were put in place April 1st 2025. Since then, there has been huge interest in the program mainly driven by US, European and Asian migrants who are looking for a “Plan B” amidst the geo-political tensions that have been brewing globally for a number of years now… NZ is clean, green, has a stable democracy, is a long way from the epi centres of these geo political issues, etc. Attached is a link below to the Government website explaining the program, but in a nutshell, NZ’s AIP visa program has two categories: Growth and Balanced:
The Growth category offers migrants a NZ$5m investment option into “Acceptable Managed Funds” across private credit, private equity and venture capital. The applicant applies, commits capital within 6 months, then must spend 21 days in the country over a 3-year period before being granted their visa.
The Balanced category offers migrants a NZ$10m investment option into listed equities, bonds, and some approved property development projects (as well as managed funds in the growth category). The applicant applies, commits capital within 6 months, then must spend 105 days in the country over a 5-year period before being granted their visa.
