​Sravani was born in India and raised in Kenya from the age of ten. Navigating life in a new home introduced her to Bharatanatyam, a classical Indian dance form that became a meaningful way to learn and celebrate the rich heritage of Indian arts and culture. With over 10 years of training by her beloved guru late Gita Umesh, she has performed extensively at cultural events, competitions and her dance school’s thematic productions. While pursuing her undergraduate studies in Environmental Sciences at Wisconsin, memories of her training and practice became a treasure and anchor far away from home. With time, her multicultural journey profoundly shaped her perspective on the need for preserving cultural heritage across borders.

​Today, guided by the values and teachings imparted by her gurus, Sravani leads her dance school Nrityalaya New York, a branch of her home institution in Nairobi, Kenya. Through her school, she trains both children and adults starting off with the very basics and gradually working towards performing for audiences. Drawing from her experiences living across three continents, Sravani is passionate about conversations surrounding dance, community, nature and culturally educating future generations.
