About Event

Meet Brave Starts member, Rob, who, after nearly 40 years in tech and financial services, decided it was time for a new chapter.

A year and a half ago, Rob left his senior corporate role and enrolled in a five-year course to become a psychotherapist. Now approaching 60 and two years into his studies, he'll share what inspired this bold move, the challenges he’s faced, and the insights he’s gained about switching careers and returning to study later in life.

He'll also cover:

  • What sort of qualifications are needed

  • How long it takes to train

  • What is costs

  • What is good and bad about the course

  • What can you earn once qualified

About Rob Alldis

Rob’s career to date has been exclusively in financial services in the City, working for the past 25 years in technology across companies including Deutsche Bank, HSBC, the S&P Ratings agency and the London Stock Exchange (LSEG).  He held various positions across these organisations, including heads of programme management, technology and business architecture and as LATAM and EMEA technology regional head.

In 2023, Rob decided when turning 60 he needed a new challenge and resigned from his last position (at LSEG) to start a new direction and train as a psychotherapist at the Tavistock and Portman NHS Trust.  The training takes five years to complete and introduces a very different working environment and culture to that which Rob has previously experienced. Going ‘back to college’ also presents some interesting challenges.
