STVP Observation Lab X Accel
The best builders do more than solve problems. They notice what others overlook.
Join us for the STVP Observation Lab!
The Stanford Technology Ventures Program (STVP) invites you to a one-day experiential workshop exploring the underestimated skill of noticing. This exclusive event is hosted in partnership with our friends at Accel in San Francisco.
Using techniques drawn from field research, visual thinking, journalism, and systems analysis, you’ll study a complex public environment in San Francisco. Rather than beginning with a preconceived idea or relying only on what people say, you’ll practice observing real-world behavior, identifying patterns, challenging assumptions, and uncovering needs hidden in plain sight.
At the STVP Observation Lab, you’ll:
Observe: Study behavior and gather real-world evidence in a public San Francisco environment.
Synthesize: Map and interpret your team's field observations.
Uncover: Identify patterns, tensions, and hidden user needs.
Hypothesize: Develop opportunity hypotheses and early concept sketches.
Share: Present your findings in a collaborative, gallery-style showcase with peers and partners.
Who Should Attend?
This workshop is open to active Stanford students from any school, department, or academic field. No prior research, design, or entrepreneurship experience is required. Come curious, collaborative, and prepared to look closely!
What to Expect
You’ll work in a team of three to four students from different fields of study. This is a highly active, participatory workshop rather than a lecture, so full-day attendance is required.
