An Evening at Baoli
There is a certain vulgarity to Cannes in June. The shouting on the Croisette, the badges, the desperate choreography of people pretending not to network while networking. We find it tedious. So we do the only civilised thing: we leave the stage to the strivers and retreat to Baoli.
You know Baoli, or you pretend to. It sits where the city softens into the sea, a room that has hosted decades of beautiful conspiracies, where the lighting was designed by someone who understood that good conversation requires shadow. The terrace looks out over water that does not care about your impression share. This is the point.
We have taken the table for one night. Not because it is exclusive, though of course it is, but because some rooms remember how to make people honest. As the festival opens and the rest of the industry performs for one another, we will gather a small assembly of agency founders, platform leaders, and the few genuine minds shaping the creator economy, and we will simply talk. The conversations that never reach the panels. The ones worth having.
There will be a sharing menu, because the table that breaks bread together negotiates more kindly afterward. There will be wine, properly chosen. There will be the particular intimacy of strangers who turn out to be allies.
This is who we are. We build systems, not spectacles. We prefer the long dinner to the loud party, the right twelve to the anonymous hundreds.
