​An evening with Zuzana Čaputová, 5th President of the Slovak Republic

​Velvet Night is the Oxford University Czech & Slovak Society's flagship gala. Every year it marks 17 November, the day that commemorates the Czech students persecuted by the Nazis in 1939 and the 1989 demonstrations that sparked the Velvet Revolution.

​This year our guest of honour is Zuzana Čaputová: a lawyer, an environmental campaigner and Slovakia's first woman president (2019–2024). She led the country through the pandemic and Russia's invasion of Ukraine and stood up for democracy and the rule of law throughout.
