Gate Lecture Series #6: Influencers
The London Basketweavers are pleased to invite you to Influencers, the next instalment in our Gate Lecture Series. The purpose of these lectures is to invite guests from throughout our sphere to talk in-depth and critically on meaningful topics that they are passionate about, to create evenings of relevant, thought-provoking, and engaging conversations.
This sixth lecture, titled Influencers, will put prominent figures and movements under an analytical and introspective microscope. In our increasingly integrated and parasocial digital landscape, how much do online personalities and scenes shape our lives, opinions, purchases, and politics? Are we even fully aware of how these machinations control and mould our everyday existence?
To answer these questions and more will be Mark Houghton (formerly Not So Obvious), a market psychologist and strategy consultant, Elizabeth Heverin, a historian and political commentator, and newcomer Spiralling Serf. Together, they will provide three unique perspectives on influencers, influencer culture, and influencing in the digital age.
Doors will open at 3:30pm, with the bar open and food available to order. The lecture itself will begin at 4:30pm and consist of three individual speeches, followed by a structured discussion and Q&A session. The segments will be broken up with intermissions, where the bar and kitchen will reopen for additional refreshments. Following conclusion of the Q&A, the bar and kitchen will reopen fully until we close up at around 10pm.
We will be hosting at a hotel in Stevenage, very easy to get to from the railway station. The station is on the Thameslink and LNER lines with frequent trains from London, Cambridge, Peterborough, Brighton, Leeds, and Newcastle. There will also be plenty of parking available for those driving, both at the hotel and streetside. The precise location will be communicated upon successful registration.
Tickets will be £10 on the door. Food and drink will be charged separately, but be assured that prices will be reasonable. Note that the entire event will be CASH ONLY, so please make sure you have enough cash with you for the whole evening. If you forget or need more, there is a cash machine at the nearby Tesco, which is only a five minute walk away.
So, does that sound good to you? Fantastic, come along, it will most definitely be worth your time. Pre-registration is not strictly necessary but would be very useful for us, as it gives us a better understanding of numbers and lets us prepare more effectively.
Of course, if you do register and later find out you are unable to attend, please let us know, either via email at london@basketweavers.co.uk or using the Contact the Host option attached to this invite. You can also contact us using these options if you have any further questions and we will endeavour to answer any queries as quickly as possible.
