Join us for a high-level workshop to unlock building electrification & deliver coordinated implementation towards the “35 by 35” goal.
The COP31 Presidency has identified electrification as a flagship priority within the Action Agenda, launching a global ambition to increase the share of final energy demand met by electricity from just over 20% today to 35% by 2035 (“35 by 35”). The initiative is intended to accelerate the transition away from fossil fuels, while supporting energy security, competitiveness and resilience. The Presidency has also highlighted buildings through its Climate-Resilient Cities agenda, including a target to reduce building energy-consumption intensity by at least 25% by 2035.
The building and construction sector will be critical in turning this ambition into reality. Buildings are among the largest consumers of energy globally and represent one of the most significant demand-side opportunities to accelerate the clean energy transition.
In partnership with the Electrify Now campaign, World Green Building Council and partners including C40 Cities, We Mean Business Coalition and Climate Group’s Under2 Coalition, will host a high-level workshop convening industry, finance and policymaker stakeholders to discuss how to progress and accelerate implementation towards the “35 by 35” goal.
This workshop aims to:
Mobilise stakeholders around a shared narrative on the role of buildings in delivering electrification and supporting the wider clean energy transition.
Enhance alignment on key priorities, enabling conditions and measures of progress.
Develop Building Electrification pathways – Alignment on the key implementation pathways needed to deliver the buildings sector's contribution to the "35 by 35" goal, including a package of recommendations that can be advanced through COP31 and beyond.
