Sale & Advertising of Dogs
This members only workshop will look at the rules surrounding the sale and advertisement of puppies and dogs by licensed breeders, helping members understand what is expected when advertising a litter, dealing with prospective owners and completing a sale.
Advertising is more than simply finding homes for your puppies. Your adverts, records and sales process can all provide evidence of how your licensed breeding activity is being operated.
We will look at what inspectors may expect to see, including licence details, photographs, the age of the puppy, where puppies can be advertised, where sales can take place and how you demonstrate that the puppies being advertised were actually bred and reared by you.
We'll also look at the evidence behind the advert. This can include mating records, parent information, microchip and veterinary records, photographs and the information provided to the new owner.
Topics will include:
What legally needs to appear in a puppy advert
Licence numbers and identifying the licensed breeder
Websites, social media and third party advertising platforms
Advertising online versus where the puppy can actually be sold
Proving that you bred and reared the puppy being advertised
The eight week rule and separation from the biological mother
Information that should be provided to the purchaser
Records and evidence inspectors may ask to see
Sire and dam information and the optional higher standards
Common areas of confusion when dealing with local authorities
For licensed breeders, advertising isn't simply about finding the right homes for puppies. It forms part of the evidence that demonstrates where your puppies came from, how they were reared and how your breeding business operates.
We'll take the regulations away from the paperwork and look at how they apply to the adverts and sales you actually make.
