Debate Motion

“The House would prefer a world where shops would allow Halloween to pass before putting out the Christmas merchandise.”

Potential Areas For Discussion

Proposition

  • Pushing Christmas mechanise too early turns it into a burden not a celebration.

  • Halloween deserves its own space without being encroached upon.

  • Where does this end? Will we have Christmas prep in July soon?

Opposition

  • This wouldn't be happening if there wasn't a demand for Christmas.

  • There is no harm from having merchandise out early.

  • We could do with a bit more Christmas throughout the year.

“Christmas as a celebration works because it is confined to a singular date.  Trying to drag out the preparation for that date into late September/early October doesn't build excitement it takes away from it.  Halloween should pass before Chirtmass merchandise is put out.” - Lanyon Rowley - Head of OU Debate Motions
