About Event

This session will cover the basics for anyone thinking about doing a community action in public or shared space. From giving flowers to strangers, setting up a table to give free advice, to parties in parks, we’ll go over the basics of doing public actions.

This workshop was inspired by Idealist's new campaign, called Idealist Days: Monthly days of sparking and celebrating local community action on all the days of the year with the same day and month (1/1, 5/5, 9/9, etc).

It will be led by Matthew Chavez, an experience designer and producer in NYC with 10 years of experience doing participatory public actions, artworks, and projects in public space. The biggest example of that is Subway Therapy, and award winning public art project on the streets of NYC. He is the senior producer of events, actions, and virtual programs at Idealist, and is a co-founder of Listening Lab.

Plan to have your camera on! There will be a connecting moment where you'll meet a few other participants, and turning your camera on is a great way to show up for anyone you might meet.
