Serverless in 2026: How AWS Is Pushing the Limits (With AI as the Stress Test)
Serverless used to mean one thing: AWS Lambda. In 2026, it covers a whole spectrum. Picking the right point on that spectrum has become a genuine architecture skill, not a solved problem. This talk covers some history by tracing how serverless computing evolved from Lambda's original "just run this function" into a much broader landscape spanning Fargate, Fargate for EKS, and beyond. We'll look honestly at the limitations that held teams and what AWS has actually done to address them. Then we'll look at AI and its impact on serverless, how the two exist together. By the end, attendees will have a better understanding of serverless in 2026 and what its future might hold. Hopefully inspiring someone to play around with the various services!
Services covered: AWS Lambda, Amazon ECS, AWS Fargate, Amazon EKS (with EC2 and Fargate), AWS Step Functions, Amazon EventBridge, Elastic Beanstalk, and a brief mention of SageMaker/Bedrock for GPU-backed inference.
