About Event

Learn the "Owl, Watchdog, and Possum" framework to understand your kids' stress responses—and your own.

Ever looked at your child mid-meltdown and thought, "Who is this kid and what is going on?" Or maybe you’ve reacted with a "bark" of your own, only to regret it 10 seconds later?

You aren't alone. Parenting is full of these "baffling behaviors," but they aren't random. They are clues to how a brain handles stress.

Join us for this month’s Dad’s Group Meetup, hosted in partnership with the Seattle Tech Forum. We are gathering to connect, share experiences, and explore a simple but powerful framework inspired by the book Raising Kids with Big Baffling Behaviors.

What We’ll Discuss:

We will move beyond "bad behavior" vs. "good behavior" and look at the three brain states that drive our actions:

  • 🦉 The Owl Brain: The calm, wise state where learning happens.

  • 🐕 The Watchdog Brain: The "fight or flight" response (meltdowns, yelling).

  • The Possum Brain: The "freeze" response (shutting down, hiding).

What You’ll Walk Away With:

  • A New Perspective: How to spot which "brain state" your child is in.

  • Self-Regulation Tools: Practical techniques to get your own "Owl brain" back online when things get heated.

  • Connection: Honest conversation with other dads who are navigating the same challenges.

Who Should Attend?

This event is open to any dad or father figure looking for community, practical parenting tools, and a safe space to discuss the ups and downs of raising kids. No prior reading is required!

About the Group:

This group provides a safe, confidential space for participants to share openly, build meaningful connections, and encourage personal growth. We meet monthly to discuss topics ranging from parenting and relationships to career and well-being.

Supported by the Seattle Tech Forum: Fun, purposeful networking and professional development for tech professionals.
