About Event

Mt. Adams Prescribed Burn Association is excited to announce that we will be hosting a wildland firefighter field day training (S-130 field day). This offering is free and open to anyone looking to expand their fire experience and knowledge. PBA members will be given priority consideration if registrants exceed our training capacity.  

When: Saturday June 28, from 8am to 5pm

Where: Pine Flats tract of the Mt. Adams Community Forest near Glenwood, WA.

What this training will provide

  • Enhanced safety and training - firefighters and fire practitioners will learn how to assess risks, build mitigation plans, and understand firefighting safety systems like LCES (Lookouts, Communication, Escape Routes, and Safety Zones), and their importance.

  • Foundational fire training - this instructor-led training will provide foundational skills and knowledge for working safely on both wildland fires and prescribed fires, including firefighting techniques, basic tools and equipment, and some fire behavior considerations.

  • Career development - This training fulfills one of the necessary prerequisites for a Firefighter Type 2 (FFT2) certification.

What you will need for the day

  • Attire - Wear appropriate clothing, including long pants and long sleeves (natural fibers only), and sturdy work/fire boots

  • Eye protection (safety glasses) and ear protection

  • Leather gloves

  • A hard hat

  • A pack with all your food and needs for a day out in the woods

  • Food and drinks

*We are able to provide eye and ear protection, gloves, and hard hats if you don’t have these! Just let us know on the registration form.

We will provide morning coffee/tea and snacks, and additional water on the day, but please bring a packed lunch, snacks and water. We will be outdoors for the entire day so dress appropriately.

Other details

There are no bathroom facilities on site and there is no cell reception.

Please note there will be no live fire component during this training due to the time of year.

Upon completion of this course we can issue a certificate of completion for the S-130 Field Day to those who need one.
