Sanctions in Practice is a focused, practical training session designed to help Gibraltar firms understand what an effective sanctions framework looks like and how it should operate when a potential issue arises.

Delivered by PwC Gibraltar specialists, this two-hour session moves beyond policies and theory to explore the practical application of sanctions controls. Participants will examine the steps involved in having an effective framework covering governance, application and testing. The session includes an interactive, staged case study that follows a potential sanctions concern from the initial alert through investigation, disclosure and remediation.

All participants will receive a 2-hour CPD certificate upon completion of the training.

About the trainers

Louis Chichon is a Manager at PwC Gibraltar and a Compliance & Anti-Money Laundering (AML) specialist, supporting a wide range of internal audit and advisory engagements. Drawing on his experience as a former Money Laundering Reporting Officer (MLRO) and Head of Compliance within a Gibraltar Financial Services Commission (GFSC) regulated firm, Louis brings practical, hands-on expertise in AML, CFT and CPF compliance, regulatory reporting, remediation programmes, policy development, and independent compliance reviews.

In addition to his client work, Louis serves on the Executive Committee of the Gibraltar Association of Compliance Officers (GACO), where he actively contributes to the development of compliance professionals through training initiatives, industry engagement, and knowledge sharing across Gibraltar's regulatory community. Mariel Angelica Angeles is an ACAMS-certified Senior Associate in PwC Gibraltar’s Compliance team, with more than seven years of experience in Financial Crime Compliance, Know Your Customer (KYC) and Anti-Money Laundering. Her experience spans quality assurance, customer due diligence (CDD), enhanced due diligence (EDD), FATCA and CRS requirements, transaction analysis and regulatory compliance.

Certified by ACAMS in KYC, AML and sanctions compliance, Mariel brings a strong focus on quality, risk management and process improvement. She has held AML and KYC roles across several international organisations, giving her practical experience in maintaining robust compliance standards, collaborating across teams and supporting effective financial crime controls.
