About Event

The Body & Memory is a guided somatic movement class exploring how memory lives, shifts, and transforms within the body. Through gentle movement prompts, improvisation, and embodied awareness, participants are invited to listen to their physical histories and explore the stories held in muscle, rhythm, and gesture. This class centers presence over performance, creating a safe space for expression, release, and the re-authoring of personal and collective narratives through intentional, caring movement.

Afé Abeni (he/him/sir) is a multidimensional artist, somatic healing enthusiast and tree friend. As an advocate for healing justice and, an out Jamaican Queer and Trans person, his involvement in initiatives prioritising queer and trans well being, is paramount. With his work he aims to create space for shame-free expression and exploration inviting folks to be their body’s kindest occupant. He is driven by a continuous conversation and deepening relationship with nature. His work invites us to see how we can rewrite the stories in our bodies through dance and movement-focused psychosomatic tools. Afé opens dialogue with his work through improvisational explorations, modelling, acting, poetry, dance, choreography, and co-creating healing experiences. Afé reaches into nature’s medicine, inviting all who engage with his work to be awakened to the ways we have been disconnected from our full potential. His dedication to innovation and curiosity fuels his artistic pursuits and exemplifies a commitment to creative evolution.
