Raising Children in Scotland
“Hello?”
“Hello, good afternoon. Please, I just got a call from my child’s school.”
“Oh, okay, what’s going on?”
“I honestly don’t know, i... they said she said…”
Sobbing
I hold on for her calm down
“I am scared, I don’t know what she told them in school..”
Voice trails off, more tears
I am not sure how many of these conversations i have had or DMs asking
“Please do you know any social worker I can call?”
It seems like, as a community we have this dark cloud of fear of a system that wants to break families apart hovering over us day and night
It’s as though we hold our breath when our kids go to school in the morning
praying…
hoping…
The fear has become a hum we just live with
We have taken a step to tackle this once and for all
Starting with education
Education in a safe, trusted space by experts from our community
They understand who we are as Africans,
And
They understand the laws of the land when it comes to parenting
Do share with others
It does take a avillage
