Who is Karen Tom?

Karen Tom is a financial advisor with Northwestern Mutual. As a queer, Asian American woman, Karen recognizes that she doesn't fit the bubble of a "traditional financial advisor" - that's why she and her team predominantly work with women, people of color, and members of the LGBTQ+ community with their financial planning. She believes that everyone should and deserve to have a financial advisor on their team. Her mission is to ensure that financial planning and financial literacy is accessible to everyone. She approaches financial planning through a comprehensive lens so that a person's financial plan directly correlates to their individual goals rather than general statistics.  Karen encourages everyone to dream big, and she helps people make smart financial decisions so that their life goals are accomplished by strategy instead of by chance. A lifelong learner, she has her series 7 license and is currently studying for her Certified Financial Planner designation.

When she is not empowering individuals through their finances, you can find her at home knitting, reading, or playing videogames.  She also serves as Operations Advisor for the local Tri Delta collegiate chapter. As a Tri Delta alumna she continues to give back to their philanthropy St. Jude. A self-proclaimed foodie she also enjoys exploring the amazing food scene of San Francisco/Bay Area with her partner.
