Is Canada Ready to be an Energy Superpower? Powering the Nation and Beyond
Canada is at a critical juncture in its energy future. Rising electricity demand, accelerating infrastructure investment, and growing global expectations are converging at a moment that will define the country’s economic and energy competitiveness for decades. The National Electricity Roundtable’s 2026 Spring Meeting brings together senior leaders from government, utilities, system operators, investors, and developers to examine whether Canada is truly ready to be an energy superpower. Through focused discussions on major project delivery, national and regional grid integration, market reform, and the balance of provincial and federal authority, the program moves beyond ambition to action—exploring what it will take to power Canada reliably, affordably, and at the scale required to lead at home and compete globally.
True to NER’s mandate, the program emphasizes practical outcomes, cross-jurisdictional collaboration, and the conditions required to move projects forward at the pace and scale Canada needs. Attendees are encouraged to come prepared not just to listen, but to actively engage—particularly during the roundtable discussion—on how Canada can power its economy, meet domestic needs, and compete globally in a rapidly changing energy landscape.
