Why Life Sciences: The Families Behind the Fight - Alzheimer's

An Alzheimer’s diagnosis changes more than one life.
As the disease progresses, family members and caregivers often take on new roles, from managing appointments and medications to making difficult decisions, navigating clinical trials, and supporting someone they love through changes in memory, behavior, and independence.
In recognition of National Alzheimer’s Disease Awareness Month and National Family Caregivers Month, this session will focus on the families behind the fight.
We’ll hear from caregivers and professionals working across patient experience and clinical research to better understand what Alzheimer’s looks like beyond the diagnosis. We’ll explore the realities families face, the role caregivers play throughout the patient journey, and why their voices need to be considered when developing new treatments and designing clinical trials.
Because a treatment can work scientifically and still be difficult to access, follow, or manage in the real world. Things like transportation, appointment schedules, caregiver responsibilities, communication, and the day-to-day realities of living with Alzheimer’s can all shape whether a healthcare or research solution truly works for the people it is meant to serve.
This session is a reminder that life sciences does not only serve patients. It serves the people standing beside them too.
