How I Got Here: How I Built a Seven-Figure Agency Outside of London, with Heather Horton, Ecrubox

Heather Horton left a career in client-side digital marketing at international businesses to build something of her own. Ecrubox hit £1 million turnover for the first time in 2020, then acquired a development company in 2021 — cementing its position as a full-service ecommerce growth agency with clients ranging from lifestyle brands to technology companies. She has since become an angel investor, a podcast host, and a mentor to female founders across the UK and globally.

This is an honest conversation about what it takes to build and scale an agency from scratch in a regional city: the decisions that drove growth, the ones that nearly didn't work, and what she's learned about building a business that lasts. For any founder running a service business and wondering what the path to serious revenue looks like, this is for you.

Heather Renee Horton is the founder of Heather Renee Consulting (HRC), helping ambitious consumer brands grow through commercial strategy, digital advertising and ecommerce development. She previously founded and grew Ecrubox, building an agency supporting brands with customer acquisition, Shopify, technology and international growth.

Having built and led a business herself, Heather understands the decisions, pressures and growing pains founders face. Today, she works closely with founders and leadership teams, connecting commercial ambition with the advertising, technology and people needed to deliver it. She combines this hands-on experience with an MBA from Warwick Business School.

Heather also runs 31 The Cross in Worcester, bringing together a café, coworking space and private meeting rooms and creative spaces in the city.
