Gate Lecture Series #3: Containment
The London Basketweavers are pleased to invite you to Containment, the next instalment in our Gate Lecture Series. The purpose of these lectures is to invite various guests from throughout our sphere to talk in-depth on topics that they are passionate about, and engage in an environment where discussion and discourse can flow freely. At the end of each evening, we want you to walk away feeling not only that you have learnt something, but you have been able to engage with the topic critically.
This third lecture, titled Containment, will take a hard look at how dissident ideas, people, and movements are captured and co-opted by the powers that be, to be used as pawns in a greater political game. Only when we unravel this political game can we understand where we stand within it, and how in turn we can influence it. Such a topic requires careful consideration, and thankfully, we are in good hands. Our guides will be Blamblas Britannica and Scrumpmonkey, both of whom have done excellent work on this subject before.
Doors will open at 4pm, with the bar open and food available to order. The lecture itself will begin at 5pm and consist of two individual speeches, followed by a structured discussion and Q&A session. The segments will be broken up with intermissions, where the bar and kitchen will reopen for additional refreshments. Following conclusion of the Q&A, the bar and kitchen will reopen fully until we close up at around 10pm.
We will be hosting at a hotel in Stevenage, very easy to get to from the railway station. The station is on the Thameslink and LNER lines with frequent trains from London, Cambridge, Peterborough, Brighton, Leeds, and Newcastle. There will also be plenty of parking available for those driving, both at the hotel and streetside. The precise location will be communicated upon successful registration.
Tickets will be £10 on the door. Food and drink will be charged separately, but be assured that prices will be reasonable. Note that the entire event will be CASH ONLY, so please make sure you have enough cash with you for the whole evening.
