Generalists & Games
The rules are being recast. The frame of reference is shifting. The gameboard is changing. And what happens when we turn it upside down?
Some players are built for stable structures. Others are more curious, bend the rules and sometimes get two moves per turn. Generalists tend to be the second kind, and the more the board moves, the more that pays off. That is the short version of the pep talk. The rest we do by playing.
Station 1: We start with 30 minutes together at the table tennis tables in Schanzenpark. A quick intro, then the actual task: take a game everybody already knows and invent one new rule that changes it.
Nobody has to learn a rulebook. You already know these games, which is exactly what makes it interesting when the rules move.
Station 2: Altes Mädchen
Then we stop working and start hanging out. We walk over to Altes Mädchen and stay as long as people feel like staying. No programme, no closing time.
Who is it for?
Everyone is welcome. You do not need to be a designer, a gamer, or part of any particular community. If you have a squiggly career, or want one, you will be in good company.
Practical things
It gets dark around 18:15, so the outdoor part runs while there is still light and we are inside with something warm soon after. Dress for a Hamburg October evening.
Free, no cap, bring a friend.
