The future of the NHS: In conversation with Paul Dinkin
The NHS faces a defining period. The upcoming transition of NHS England into the Department of Health and Social Care, recent reorganisation of Integrated Care Systems, and the creation of new delivery models like NHS Online are all significant shifts in the way the health service works. These shifts offer opportunities to transform the delivery of healthcare, but making the most of the moment will require overcoming the challenges of fiscal constraints, repeated strike action and rising public expectations.
The NHS is being asked to deliver more than ever: from implementing the Government’s 10 Year Health Plan, National Cancer Plan, and renewed Women’s Health Strategy, to achieving their neighbourhood health ambitions and elective recovery targets. It is therefore essential that the changes, challenges and opportunities facing the NHS are successfully navigated.
