Difficult participants: A World Café for facilitators
We all experience them.
“Difficult participants.”
The ones who dominate the conversation.
The silent ones.
The skeptical ones.
The ones who challenge you, derail the agenda, or make you question your own facilitation choices.
During Facilitation Week, the Future Now Community, alongside Hector Villarreal Lozoya, CPF, is hosting a virtual World Café to explore this topic together — not from a “how do I fix them?” mindset, but from a place of curiosity, shared experience, and practical learning.
What we’ll explore together
In this session, we’ll dive into questions like:
What do we actually mean when we say “difficult participant”?
Why do these behaviors show up during sessions?
What’s really happening beneath the surface — for them and for us as facilitators?
How can we respond in ways that protect the group, the work, and ourselves?
This is a peer conversation, not a lecture.
Expect small-group discussions, honest reflections, and space to share what has (and hasn’t) worked.
Who is this for?
Facilitators, coaches, team leads, and anyone who regularly holds space for groups. Especially if you’ve ever left a session thinking:
“That was… challenging.”
If you’ve ever struggled with participant dynamics, or you’re simply curious to hear how others handle them, you’re very welcome to join.
Looking forward to seeing you!
