Philly Reads Philly: Ravishing

​​Hosted by At My House in Queen Village, Philly Reads Philly is a new book club focused on reading books about Philly or written by authors based in the Philadelphia area.

​​For this meeting, we’re excited to welcome local debut author Eshani Surya to discuss her debut novel Ravishing.

​​Rather than a traditional book club format, this evening centers on conversation — a chance to hear directly from the author about the process of writing a first novel, the ideas behind the work, and the themes that shape it. There will be time for questions, discussion, and a more open, shared exchange around the book.

​​Ravishing is a sharp and layered novel that moves through questions of desire, identity, and perception. At its core, it examines the tension between how we see ourselves and how we’re seen by others — the push and pull between image, intimacy, and self-construction.

​​Both intimate and unsettling at times, the novel lingers in the gray areas of connection, asking what it means to be desired, to be understood, and to be misread.
