Join us for the virtual, public launch of the Pulitzer Center’s research report, “Impact in Journalism: A Global Report on Current Practices, Challenges, and Emerging Trends.” You’ll hear from coauthors Flora Pereira, Chief Impact Officer at the Pulitzer Center, and Jazmín Acuña, a journalist, impact strategist, and consultant with the Pulitzer Center’s Impact Initiative.
Participants will explore findings from the research report and discuss key questions such as: How do journalists conceptualize impact, and how do they put it into practice? What barriers do newsrooms and freelancers face when working to engage people, and where can we identify opportunities to build systems and resources that make audience-centered journalism sustainable?
This conversation is for journalism professionals and all those who support storytelling for the public good.
🎙 About the Speakers
Flora Pereira is the Chief Impact Officer at the Pulitzer Center, leading engagement and education programs and teams in the U.S., Latin America, Central Africa, and Southeast Asia. Her work combines investigative journalism, social movement expertise, and academic perspectives to raise public awareness of social inequalities and environmental degradation.
Pereira is a specialist in research, education, and strategic communication, mainly focusing on social and environmental issues. Before joining the Center, she worked at Dialogo Brasil/Climate Land Use Alliance (CLUA), was head of Afreaka, an awarded Brazilian media and education non-profit organization focused on promoting awareness of African issues, and worked for different United Nations Organizations such as FAO, UNICEF, and UNEP. Pereira is a doctoral candidate at the Faculty of Economics of Coimbra University in the Postcolonialisms and Global Citizenship Doctoral Programme.
Jazmín Acuña is an impact strategist and consultant with the Pulitzer Center’s Impact Initiative, where she supports journalists and newsrooms in designing, tracking, and strengthening the impact of their reporting. She has also been a Center grantee as co-founder of El Surtidor, an award-winning digital outlet from Paraguay known for its visual, investigative, and impact-driven journalism.
As a Reuters Institute Journalist Fellow in 2025, Acuña developed Change-centric Journalism, a framework that helps media leaders, editors, and journalists move beyond a content-centric approach and build journalism with clearer pathways to public value and change. She has served as a mentor, trainer, and speaker for organizations including WAN-IFRA, the International Press Institute, Fundación Gabo, and the Pulitzer Center.
