Washington Post edition: Is indie journalism right for me? A session for recently laid off journalists
If you were among the journalists laid off at The Washington Post, The Atlanta Journal Constitution, The Hechinger Report or any other legacy journalism entity, we know this moment is painful, disorienting, and infuriating.
You're probably wrestling with big questions right now: Is indie journalism right for me? Can I actually make this work? What would it even look like?
Whether you're considering a paid newsletter, a YouTube channel, a worker-owned collective, or something else entirely – or if you're still at the Post and contemplating your next move – we want to create space to think through your options together.
Join us for a guided discussion with people who've been exactly where you are:
The session will be led by Liz Kelly Nelson, Ryan Kellett and Justin Bank – all three are Washington Post alumni who recently launched The Independent Journalism Atlas and regularly work with indie journalists via Project C and Going Solo.
Join us for a real conversation about the risks, rewards, and realities of going independent. We'll be joined by other former Posties who left to launch successful independent ventures and want to help you figure out if this path makes sense for you.
What you'll get:
Honest talk about your options in indie journalism
Insights from former Posties who've made the leap
A chance to work through the risks and rewards with people who get it
Community with others navigating the same questions
Accessibility notes:
