Visions of the Future is a global imagination project with a simple but profound premise: what is not imagined cannot be built.
Visions of the Future invites people from all walks of life to imagine the futures they would love to live in. Through hackathons held around the world, the project has been gathering an archive of human longing and possibility around the question: What future is worth dreaming into existence?
This Session: A Different Kind of Exercise
Our regular hackathon conversations start with the world we want to build. This session starts somewhere different: the world we are already building, whether we mean to or not.
Rather than projecting an ideal future, participants will be asked to follow the current trajectory forward.
Working in small groups, leaders will construct detailed projections of the world 20 years from now, under a single but consequential assumption: that all the values, and incentives driving decisions today remain unchanged.
An honest, rigorous look at where the path we are already on leads us.
The most powerful catalyst for reimagining the future is truly seeing the present.
What You'll Do
Form diverse leadership teams — You'll be matched with peers from different industries and backgrounds, creating groups that bring multiple lenses to the same set of questions.
Map today's systems — Together, your team will identify the dominant incentives, values, and structures shaping decisions in your sectors right now. What is being optimized for? Who benefits? What is being ignored?
Project forward 20 years — Following those systems to their logical conclusions, your team will construct a detailed, honest picture of 2045. What does work look like? What happens to communities, relationships, institutions, the environment? What gets amplified, and what gets lost?
Present your projection — Each group will share their vision with the room, creating a collective portrait of the future we are currently headed toward — and sparking a deeper conversation about the choices still available to us.
Who This Is For
This session is designed for senior business leaders who are curious, reflective, and willing to sit with uncomfortable questions.
