Anti-Sexual Harassment Workshop
Content Warning: Please note, while this workshop’s topic is important, it will cover topics such as gendered violence and sexual harassment that might be distressing for some.
As the summer is coming to an end, many employers will kickstart their annual rounds of students and early-career internship programs. For women, queer, and marginalized students and workers interested in journalism, foreign correspondence, government and non-profit sectors, information on safety and boundaries are not always easy to access. In recent years, survivors have courageously come forth with their stories of sexual harassment, abuse and assault.
Inappropriate behaviours across industries and known-perpetrators are not anecdotal stories, but a tip of the iceberg revealing the sector had long normalized systemic and institutionalized sexualized violence. Sexual harassment and gendered violence may take many forms, and may target anyone regardless of gender identity or sexual orientation.
This workshop seeks to help support early-career workers and students wanting to make a professional career within the Sinosphere and other vulnerable sectors recognize the signs of sexual harassment and abuse, and to better respect the boundaries of colleagues. Furthermore, this workshop empowers attendees to learn workplace and labour rights in the United States of America and Canada, as well as build strong boundaries and self-advocate in the workplace.
