What Can We Learn from Fuckboys? a Reflection On A Series Of Interviews

​In the course of ongoing research, Dr. Stein Lubrano heard from dozens of former “fuckboys”, mostly but not all men, who have led on sexual partners and/or ghosted them. Many were regretful, some were frustrated by expectations thrust upon them. In this short talk she’ll share anonymized insights and quotes (with their consent) and discuss what we might learn from this particular dating phenomenon especially in the context of modern culture and technology.

​We’ll discuss:

• ​why do fuckboys ghost and what do their sexual partners mean to them?

• ​what is uniquely modern about the fuckboy and what is an age old tale?

• ​How does this type of behavior relate to the way much of our transactional attention economy works?

• ​who are the missing fuckboys in this fairly casual ethnographic research project? (Who wouldn’t ever talk to Dr. SL, especially since she’s a female researcher?)
