Difficult Book Reading Support Group
Welcome! In this group we're going to be finally reading those books we pretend we've read or those books we started and couldn't finish or those books that have been sitting on our shelf daring us to read them for years.
We will begin with that whale of a book, Moby-Dick. The book is 135 chapters and the plan is to finish it in 6 weeks, roughly 22 chapters a week. That might seem daunting but we can do it together, me hearties! Why read it? Well, there is a big whale in it. Still not sold? It is an ambitious epic that tackles huge subjects like industrialization, colonialism, science, and religion starring common people, not nobility.
We set sail on Oct 18, the original publication date of the novel. This is the loose structure.
Week 1: Chapter 1-25
Week 2: Chapter 26-50
Week 3: Chapter 51-75
Week 4: Chapter 76-100
Week 5: Chapter 101-135
Week 6: (Overflow)
Next on the docket is Gravity's Rainbow.
This is an amateur reading group with no prerequisites or assumption of knowledge, except for a committed desire to learn and participate in the groups each week.
