About Event

Why do leadership teams full of talented, experienced people so often fail to perform as powerfully as they should?

If you lead a leadership team – or help develop one – this webinar will give you a different lens through which to understand its performance.

Much of leadership development focuses on ME – my personality, strengths and leadership style.

Leadership team development often extends this to ME and YOU – how my style interacts with yours, how we communicate, manage conflict, build trust and improve relationships.

All of this matters. But it overlooks perhaps the most fundamental fact about human behaviour:

We are profoundly social creatures.

We don’t simply relate to other individuals. We also relate psychologically to the groups we belong to. When a group becomes an “us”, it changes how we think, feel and behave – often without us realising it.

This is the world of social identity and group dynamics. Decades of research show that a strong sense of “we” is associated with better leadership, trust, resilience and performance. In our own research with the University of Sussex, teams with the strongest shared identities outperformed the weakest by 53%.

Yet most leaders are taught to see teams through an individual and interpersonal lens. The group lens asks something different:

Who are we together? And what changes when being one of “us” becomes part of who I am?

Identity shapes culture. Culture shapes performance.

In this interactive 45-minute webinar, Chartered Occupational Psychologist Jeremy Holt and former Royal Marines Major General Ewen Murchison DSO MBE combine academic research with experience from boardrooms, elite sport and military leadership.

You’ll leave with:

  • A new way to diagnose recurring leadership-team problems.

  • A simple test of the strength of your team’s shared identity.

  • Practical questions for reframing conflict, accountability, silos and slow decision-making.

  • A framework for moving from ME → YOU → US → RESULTS.

This isn’t about making people like each other more. It’s about understanding what turns a collection of talented individuals into a genuine team – more than the sum of its parts.
