Sip Stories: Into the Talha πΊ
βπ· November means one thing in the Portuguese wine world: Sao Martinho!
βThis autumn festival marks the opening of clay wine amphorae known as talhas in the Alentejo region and the tasting of new wine from this year's harvest. Learn about this ancient tradition inherited from the Romans and usually paired with some roasted chestnuts and a large bonfire. While open flames aren't a great idea at a paper store, we will still celebrate by tasting delicious talha wines lovingly made all over Portugal.
βAbout Sip Stories
βSip Stories is a laid back and intimate tasting experience built around small scale Portuguese wines. Each session shares stories about the grapes, land and people behind what's in your glass. We keep the table deliberately small so there's room for real conversation (and second pours!).
βYour Host/What to expect
βHi! I'm Valerie, ex-diplomat, accidental somm and full on wine nerd. I've worked harvest with tiny producers in Portugal, created wine lists for restaurants, and am now on a mission to build a community of wine curious people who prefer conversation over a masterclass. I'll be opening bottles you won't see in supermarkets, and we'll spend an evening finding out why we like what we like, how to describe it without being pretentious (I try at least) and appreciating the people and passion behind every bottle.
βCome for the wine, stay for the stories, and leave knowing a little bit more about what makes Portuguese wine the middle child of the wine world.
No prior wine knowledge needed! Come curious. Come thirsty.
