Point Reyes Point Lighthouse + Elephant Seal Chimney Rock Trail Hike
Join us for a Saturday adventure at Point Reyes Station!
We are planning two quick (moderate-intensity) hikes:
The hikes are moderately challenging and will take a total of 2–2.5 hours to complete. Be sure to bring water and snacks, and dress in layers, as the Pacific Coast weather will be unpredictable, especially on the seashore.
We have two cars and about 8-9 total spots; if you want to bring a vehicle, message us on WhatsApp. We'll add more spots if more vehicles become available.
What to Expect:
We will start with the Chimney Rock Trail and then go to the Lighthouse, arriving by 1:30 p.m. to get access to the clockwork room. This room houses the original clockwork and allows one to look closely at the first-order Fresnel lens.
Stunning views and the chance to see wildlife like whales, elephant seals, and elk.
About 300 steps climb down to the lighthouse and up while coming back.
Make quick stops at the scenic Cypress Tree Tunnel and Historic KPH Maritime Radio Receiving Station.
Diverse landscapes: forests, grasslands, and coastal bluffs.
Optional detour to scenic overlooks along the trail
Details:
Total distance: Approximately 3.6 miles
Duration: About 2–2.5 hours
Parking: Available near the entrance of trails; may fill up quickly
Restrooms: Available at the NPS Visitor Center
What to Bring: Water, snacks, comfortable walking shoes, sunscreen, and layers
Where to Meet:
Meet at the Golden Gate Bridge Parking Lot at 10:00 a.m. We’ll wait a few minutes for latecomers but will start promptly to stay on schedule. If you’re running late, let us know via our WhatsApp community, and we’ll help you join the group on the trail or at the parking lot.
We’ll finish the hike back at the starting point. Those interested can join us for an optional late lunch or meal in town to relax and chat after the hike.
