Mortgages 101 with Mortgages by Gretchen and Wealth BuildHer Community
A free online event hosted by Wealth BuildHer.
Buying a home is one of the biggest financial decisions most of us will ever make, and yet so many of us go into the process without fully understanding how it works. This event is about changing that.
I'm collaborating with Gretchen from Mortgages by Gretchen, to bring you a practical, no-fluff session on all the basics you need to know about mortgages and home buying as a first-time buyer. Whether you're actively planning to buy, just starting to think about it, or simply want to be more informed for the future, this is for you.
Here's what we'll cover
What a mortgage broker does and how they differ from going directly to your bank
The step-by-step process of getting a mortgage when buying a home
What it takes to qualify - credit, down payment, income, property type and debt ratios
Planning for the future, including investment properties and stock market investing
This is a space to ask the questions you might feel embarrassed to ask elsewhere. I highly encourage you to come prepared with questions because that's where the real value is.

About Gretchen Casey
Gretchen Casey is a Mortgage Agent and founder of Mortgages by Gretchen – Perch, with over 20 years of experience helping Canadians make confident mortgage decisions. She entered the industry while supporting a friend’s business and quickly discovered a passion for helping people find solutions others couldn’t. Early in her career, arranging a private mortgage for someone who had been unable to get help elsewhere showed her the powerful impact the right guidance can have.
Her approach is shaped by personal experiences, including financial hardship as a student, divorce, and rebuilding after selling her home following a relationship breakup. Growing up, she also witnessed the contrast between financial stability and struggle within her own family, which deepened her empathy for people navigating difficult situations. Gretchen is especially passionate about helping first-time buyers, self-employed clients, and individuals going through divorce or major life transitions. Above all, she hopes clients remember that she truly and deeply cares about people and their well-being.
This event is free and open to everyone. If you know someone who would benefit, please share this page with them.
