📍Melbourne - International Generalists Day!
Imagine a room full of people who actually get your squiggly career background. Now you can walk into one.
Join Mel and Skye in Melbourne for 2026 International Generalist Day (IGD) — a global celebration happening simultaneously across cities worldwide.
IGD celebrates cross-disciplinary thinkers, multi-passionate professionals, and people with non-linear or "squiggly" career paths.
What to Expect:
🎤 Generalist storytelling — hear real generalist career-path stories that don't fit a straight line
✍️ Contribute to our Generalist World Melbourne storytelling wall
💬 Open conversation on the night's theme: what is a generalist, anyway?
We’ll dive into conversations that cross boundaries and discover how different fields can inspire new ways of thinking.
Whether you’re just starting out, mid-journey, or reflecting on a career full of variety, you’ll walk away with stories, insights to inspire your own generalist path.
Why Attend?
Gain fresh new ideas and a new perspective from brains outside your field (think of it as your new brains trust)
Share experiences: Exchange resources, stories, and tips and access a community of potential collaborators.
Expand your network with like-minded, like-hearted, authentic connections. You never know what new collaboration, project, or perspective could spark from a single conversation.
Celebrate and elevate the power of the Generalists!
Food & Drinks: Drinks and nibbles will be provided
Whether you’re seeking inspiration, new connections, or just a chance to share your story, this meetup is for you. Imagine what you could learn from a designer, a scientist, and a writer—all in the same room.
Who Can Join?
Everyone’s welcome! You don’t need to be part of a specific industry or community—if you’re curious and open to exploring ideas, we’d love to see you there.
Melbourne International Generalist Day is generously supported by Sanders Place, a Richmond based community for purpose-driven leaders, teams, and investors. Sign up to their monthly newsletter and get invited to exclusive impact aligned events at Sanders Place.
Shout out to Netlify for sponsoring International Generalist Day 2026!
Netlify is how generalists gets an idea live on the web. One of our members put it simply: "I already had a plan for what I wanted to create, but it came up with solutions and ideas I'd never have thought of."
This meetup is run by Melanie Calleja and Skye Bennett and organised by Generalist World - the community where generalists belong. You'll find everything you need to grow in your career - support, opportunity, lots of learning and great new connections.
Please note, you do not need to be a member of GW to join a meetup, everyone is welcome
