A journey through the emotions that lift us up and the experiences that bring us down
The Joy & Sorrow Screening Session explores cinema’s ability to awaken happiness, hope, grief, and emotional release. These short films examine the moments that give life meaning, as well as the losses and hardships that reveal our vulnerability.
From uplifting stories and playful discoveries to deeply moving reflections on separation, memory, and mortality, the session asks how filmmakers create authentic emotional responses and whether audiences experience those emotions differently when a story is created by a human or generated with AI.
This screening session at the Human vs. AI Film Premiere brings together Nominated Films, Official Selections, and Notable Selections that explore how human storytellers and generative AI converge and diverge in creating emotional impact. Through laughter, tenderness, grief, loss, and moments of profound connection, these films reveal different ways of shaping what audiences feel.
Together, the program invites viewers to experience the emotional range of cinema while considering how human and machine creativity may differ or overlap n the authenticity, intensity, and complexity of emotional expression.
The film lineup and individual titles will be announced in early September, following the conclusion of the jury’s evaluation for the 2026 Human vs. AI Film Festival. Bringing together film industry professionals, generative AI experts, and film scholars from around the world, the festival is a truly international effort—and a uniquely timely cinematic experiment exploring the evolving relationship between human creativity and generative AI.
