Enterprise Essentials (Part 1)
Open to students from all colleges
Part 1: Anyone can be enterprising
You might be more enterprising than you think
Enterprise and entrepreneurship can sometimes feel like they are only for people who already have a business idea or want to start a company. This interactive session takes a broader and more practical look at what being enterprising actually means.
Together, we’ll move beyond common stereotypes about startups, hustle culture and the lone genius with a “big idea”. Instead, we’ll explore the everyday behaviours that help people spot opportunities, work with others, try things out and turn ideas into action.
What will we explore?
During the session, you’ll:
Explore what enterprise and entrepreneurship mean in practice
Make sense of terms such as entrepreneur, founder, innovator and intrapreneur
Challenge some common myths and assumptions about entrepreneurship
Look at examples of enterprising behaviour in different settings
Recognise enterprising behaviours you may already possess
Learn how to develop these behaviours further
What will the session be like?
This is an interactive session, not a lecture. Most of the time will be spent on short activities, discussion and personal reflection.
You’ll have opportunities to think about where you already use enterprising behaviours, whether that is through your studies, research, societies, volunteering, part-time work or personal projects. You’ll also be able to hear different perspectives from other students.
Dinner will also be provided.
Who is it for?
This session is open to University of Cambridge students and recent alumni from any college, subject, background or level of experience.
You do not need:
A business idea
Previous entrepreneurship experience
Business or technical knowledge
Plans to start a company
To think of yourself as an entrepreneur
All you need is some curiosity and a willingness to take part.
What will I take away?
You’ll leave with:
A clearer understanding of enterprise and entrepreneurship
Greater awareness of the enterprising behaviours you already have
Behaviours you would like to strengthen
Register now and come along to discover how enterprising you already are.
