Stations of the Future - Megacast
Think about the last station you were in. Odds are you weren't really thinking about it at all. You were likely checking a departure board (or your mobile device), finding out if you had time to grab a coffee or working out where the exit was.
Stations are some of the most-used buildings we have, and some of the least thought through. We treat them as somewhere to get through rather than places where people spend time, do things or just feel anxious.
Which is odd, because a station isn't really the end of anything. Nobody's day finishes when they get off the train, and no journey really begins only when they get to the station. You're in the middle of something ... arriving somewhere new, making a connection, starting a trip, or maybe worrying about something. The station is the bit that decides how all of that feels. We should design for that.
So we're getting some people we like into a room online to talk about it properly. What's a station actually for? What are the good ones getting right? And what could we do in terms of the big reimaginings, but also the small, cheap, do-it-right-now stuff to make these places work harder and smarter.
Challenger Cities, Now or Never and RASIC, plus a few favourite voices are hosting a bit of an experiment. Consider it a Megacast ...
