About Event

What even is PR, and how can we use it to grow your show?

Public relations gets thrown around a lot in podcasting. Sometimes it means press, sometimes it means guesting. And sometimes, it's more vibes-based. But in this session, we're working with Kathryn Musilek (who has been leading PR campaigns for 2+ decades) define that.

This session is about understanding what PR is (+ what it is not), how it differs from advertising and marketing, and how to build a campaign rooted in relationships — staying away from cold pitches — that can meaningfully grow your podcast.

PR isn’t about begging for coverage or sending out tons of pitches to shows that you have no chance of appearing on. It’s about offering something valuable, understanding your target, and knowing how to position yourself so the right people say yes.

You’ll come away with:

  • A clear definition of PR in the context of podcasting (and how it overlaps with marketing and ads)

  • How to approach podcast guesting with a PR mindset

  • What makes a pitch compelling to podcasts, journalists, and media outlets

  • The building blocks of a podcast PR campaign (timelines, outreach, messaging, follow-ups)

  • Real examples of campaigns that drove meaningful listener growth

  • A framework for identifying what you can offer to an interviewer

This event is for:

  • Podcasters who want to grow their audience beyond existing channels

  • Creators who’ve heard they should make a PR push but don't know what that means in practice

  • Anyone considering podcast guesting as a growth strategy

  • Marketing professionals who want to layer earned media into their campaigns

You’ll leave this session with at least one concrete idea you can act on... whether that’s a pitch angle, a pitching tool to test, or a new way of thinking about your marketing efforts. If not, we’ll give you half your money back.

The Well, It Depends mindset

There’s no one-size-fits-all strategy when it comes to anything in the digital maker space. What works for one show might flop for another.

This event is about giving you the tools and frameworks to decide what’s right for you at your show's stage.
