Turf Tennis: Healthiest Sport On Earth?
Is Turf Tennis the Healthiest Sport on Earth?
On Wednesday, September 30th (National Day for Truth and Reconciliation), we’re running the inaugural Turf Tennis experiment at Windsor Turf Field in North Vancouver - and we’re assembling a curated founding cohort to test the limits of this new game. Rain or shine, the experiment goes down.
What is Turf Tennis? It's a Tennis / Pickleball hybrid that combines the speed and accessibility of pickleball, with the deep skill progression and beauty of tennis. Played on turf to protect your joints while sustaining high-tempo athletic flow.
The Court: Standard pickleball dimensions, played entirely on turf.
The Gear: A string-strung paddle paired with a felt-covered, low-compression tennis ball.
The Vibe: The athletic movement of tennis meets the rapid-fire reaction time of pickleball—with forgiving turf joint dynamics.
Who Belongs in the Founding Cohort? You can join as an individual or sign up with friends. Singles will be integrated directly into organized rotations and matchplay, so you'll get maximum court time either way. No prior racquet sport experience is necessary, but entry is limited to individuals who fit one (or more) of four core postures:
The Competitor: You play to win, push the pace, and bring direct athletic intensity.
The Good Viber: You don't just find the energy—you create it. Easygoing, encouraging, and essential.
The Longevitymaxxr: You track your heart rate variability, monitor Zone 2 output on your Garmin, and prioritize low-impact, sustainable performance.
The Experimentalist: You see the world as a prototype. You’re always asking, "What if we tweaked this?"
What to Bring & Footwear Guidelines
Required: Athletic clothing, signed waiver (completed before check-in), and a water bottle.
Footwear Specs: Standard running/court shoes are recommended for dry turf to allow natural sliding and a full range of motion. In the event of rain, turf shoes or cleats may be worn to maintain grip without impacting gameplay.
Nice-to-Have: Smart watch / fitness tracker, and your own pickleball paddle (if you prefer using your own rig, though string-strung demo paddles will be provided).
Media Notice: This event will be professionally filmed and photographed for promotional, archival, and research purposes. By registering, you consent to being captured on media.
